Why does prostatitis develop? Possible causes and risk factors

There are many reasons that provoke the development of an inflammatory process in the prostate (prostatitis). These are various sexually transmitted diseases (gonorrhea, trichomoniasis), hormonal disorders, overweight, smoking and alcohol abuse.

Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland that causes discomfort, interferes with sexual functions, and can lead to inflammation of the testicles and epididymis, which eventually leads to infertility. Pathology is observed in men of different ages, but most often after 35-40 years. There are many reasons for the development of prostatitis.

Acute and chronic infectious processes as a factor in the development of prostatitis

Often, the reason for the development of the inflammatory process in the prostate is the activity of infectious agents. The disease develops due to the penetration of an infection into the prostate gland, the appearance of which is caused by other diseases. Due to their development, the immune system is weakened, the process of reproduction of pathogenic microflora begins.

Inflammation of the prostate gland is caused by:

  • Gonococci (agents that cause gonorrhea);
  • Chlamydia (pathogens of chlamydia);
  • Trichomonas (agents that cause trichomoniasis);
  • cochus bacillus (the causative agent of tuberculosis);
  • Candidiasis fungi (agents that cause candidiasis).

Also, prostatitis develops under the influence of Escherichia coli, enterococci, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, staphylococci.

Disorders of blood circulation in the pelvis

Stagnation of blood and fluid in the pelvis is the result of impaired blood flow in the vessels of this area. This phenomenon is associated with factors such as sedentary lifestyle, sedentary work, wearing too tight, crushing underwear or tight jeans and being overweight. Slow blood circulation may be associated with impaired heart muscle function, diseases of the nervous system.

In the presence of such factors, blood does not flow in sufficient quantities into the prostate gland. This leads to oxygen deficiency and increases the risk of developing an inflammatory process.

Prolonged abstinence from sexual intercourse, frequent cessation of sexual intercourse

If a man has not had sex for a long time and also if he was having sex as a method of contraception, then it provokes inflammation of the prostate.

In the presence of these factors, a special fluid accumulates in the prostate - a secretion that ensures the viability and mobility of sperm and is removed from it under normal conditions. During abstinence and cessation of sexual intercourse, it remains in the prostate or is excreted only in part in the absence of ejaculation.

Swelling causes an increase in body size and its inflammation.

Hormonal disorders

Hormonal imbalance, during which testosterone production is disrupted, leads to the development of an inflammatory process in the prostate.

Hormonal disorders occur as a result of such phenomena:

  • Abnormalities of glands or organs of the endocrine system (thyroid gland, adrenal glands, pituitary gland);
  • Damage to the testicles, during which testosterone is produced;
  • Lack of physical activity;
  • Acute and chronic intoxication;
  • Improper nutrition;
  • Frequent stress;
  • Living in an unfavorable ecological environment;
  • Tumor neoplasms.

Prostatitis can be caused by a decrease or sharp increase in the level of the male sex hormone.

Injury and hypothermia

Mechanical damage to the pelvic organs and perineum causes the prostate to swell, leading to its inflammation. If the lesions were severe, then they can provoke chronic prostatitis.

Uterine pain with prostatitis

Hypothermia of the pelvic region, which occurs with prolonged stay in the drawing or as a result of incorrect choice of clothing (not for the weather), also causes an acute inflammatory process of the prostate gland. Importantly, hypothermia reduces the body's defenses, which in such conditions fail to fight the developing disease.

Constant nervous tension

Prostatitis can have a psychological nature. The risk group includes men who regularly experience stress, experience persistent sleep deprivation and chronic fatigue, as well as experience constant increased mental stress.

The trigger in this case is the production of specific "stressful" substances - thus, the nervous system responds to the situation. Such conditions increase the risk of developing inflammation.

Bad habits and unhealthy diet

Alcohol and smoking negatively affect blood vessels, making them inelastic and fragile. As a result, the blood supply to the prostate is reduced, the gland receives less nutrients and oxygen. Inflammation develops under such conditions.

Harmful foods: fatty and fried foods, semi-finished products, canned foods, pickles, as well as beverages such as strong tea and coffee, sweet soda reduce immunity. Because of this the body is unable to fight pathogens that cause inflammation of the prostate.

Digestive problems that cause frequent constipation

If a person has irregular bowel movements or frequent constipation, dysbiosis develops: in this case, the ratio of beneficial and harmful microflora in the gastrointestinal tract to the latter changes. This reduces immunity and increases the body's susceptibility to pathogens. In addition, fecal retention promotes the absorption of toxins in the large intestine, which also negatively affects the body’s protective function.

Prostatitis is a disease that can lead to infertility. This deviation occurs under the influence of various reasons: from damage to the pelvic organs to psychological factors. To determine the cause of inflammation of the prostate gland and eliminate it, you can make progress in the treatment of pathology.
